SJCAM Advances Dual-Lens Imaging Strategy with the SJ30 8K Action Camera at IFA 2026

BERLIN, Germany, September 2026—SJCAM is showcasing the SJ30 8K Action Camera at IFA 2026 in Berlin. Rather than treating the SJ30 simply as a higher-resolution upgrade, SJCAM sees it as a further step in the SJ series exploration of dual-lens imaging: using different imaging systems for different real-world capture conditions.

Why SJCAM Is Exploring Dual-Lens, Dual-Chip Imaging

Action cameras are expected to work across unusually broad conditions. A traveler can move from bright streets into dim interiors and continue shooting after sunset. A motorcycle rider can encounter rapid changes in light, vibration, wind, and motion within the same ride. A single sensor and processing path must therefore balance very different imaging demands.

The SJ30 approaches that problem with a dual-lens, dual-chip imaging architecture. Each lens is paired with its own imaging chip and dedicated processing path, allowing the system to use imaging hardware designed around different capture conditions rather than asking one sensor to stretch across the entire day.

For the SJ30, a 1/2.0-inch daylight sensor is paired with a 1/1.8-inch starlight sensor with an f/1.8 aperture for low-light capture. The architectural logic is straightforward: daylight and low-light scenes place different demands on sensitivity, exposure, noise control, and image processing. Dedicated imaging paths give SJCAM more room to tune each path around the conditions it is intended to handle.

From SJ20 to SJ30: Evolving the Dual-Lens Approach

The idea did not begin with the SJ30. The earlier SJ20 established the SJ series dual-lens direction with separate daylight and starlight imaging systems. SJ30 continues that exploration but expands the hardware and the overall capture system around it.

Compared with the SJ20’s 1/2.8-inch daylight and 1/2.8-inch starlight sensors, the SJ30 moves to a larger 1/2.0-inch daylight sensor and 1/1.8-inch starlight sensor. Maximum video recording rises from 4K/30fps to 8K/20fps, while 4K/60fps provides a smoother option for faster motion. Still-photo resolution also increases from up to 20MP to up to 48MP.

The change is broader than resolution alone. The SJ30 adds SteadyMotion V2.0 stabilization with 45-degree Horizon Lock, supports the SJCAM M4 wireless microphone and Detachable Windguard, and introduces voice control.

While the extended battery handle is also part of the SJ series experience, the SJ30 uses it to support a much longer shooting window: up to 7 hours of recording at 4K/30fps when paired with the handle. For users moving through changing environments over the course of a day, that endurance complements the camera’s day-and-night imaging architecture—allowing the SJ30 to keep recording as both the light and the journey change.

An 8K Action Camera for Travel and Motorcycle Riding

The dual-lens strategy is particularly relevant to travel and motorcycle riding because neither scenario stays in one condition for long. Travel can shift from daylight sightseeing to indoor spaces and evening streets within hours. Motorcycle footage adds constant motion, vibration, changing exposure, wind, and situations where the rider may not want to operate the camera by hand.

“SJ30 represents an important step in how we are thinking about the SJ series. Instead of asking one imaging system to do everything, we are exploring how dedicated imaging hardware can be optimized for different shooting conditions. SJ20 started that direction, and SJ30 pushes it further in image quality, stabilization, and the overall shooting experience,” said Leon Yang, marketing manager at SJCAM.

A Direction for the SJ Series

For SJCAM, the SJ30 is therefore more than an 8K action camera or a specification update. It represents the continued development of a product architecture first explored with the SJ20: using multiple imaging systems to address different real-world capture requirements.
